Two fourths for Ollie Hancock at Brands

19-year old Ollie Hancock took two fourth place finishes in the BARC Formula Renault championship at Brands Hatch over the weekend., the Hampshire-based driver feeling that things could have been better but for an incident in practice which cost him valuable track time.

Hancock lost a rear wheel after being hit by a Class B car during Saturday’s practise session and, whilst his Mark Burdett Motorsport team worked hard to fix the damage, the loss of crucial track time left him playing catch up for the remainder of the weekend.

Having qualified seventh for race one on Sunday, Hancock worked his way up to fourth, but was unable to catch the leaders and challenge for a podium.

Monday’s race two also saw Ollie start from seventh and, after gaining a place off the grid, he ran sixth for much of the race, setting a fastest time of 46.912s which remained the race’s fastest lap until the very closing stages. On final lap and with one corner remaining, the battle for third resulted in David McDonald and Rossi Worswick putting each other out of the race as a grateful Ollie Hancock found himself promoted to fourth at the flag.

Hancock said: “Things were going really well in practice on Saturday until the contact with the class B car. After that the car never really quite felt the same to drive and I think the knock-on effect was that we were slightly on the back foot for the rest of the weekend.

“We have at least maintained our third place in championship though and whilst I can’t now win the title, I’m hell bent on winning the next two races to secure second place in the final standings.”
